HappeninginHerts.com is a new business directory and website for Ware, Hertford, Hoddesdon and surrounding areas. Established in January 2020, we are expanding our coverage into Welwyn, St Albans, Harpenden, Bishops Stortford and further afield into Herts.
We’re not about hard news – we’re about the fantastic small businesses, quirky interest stories and local colour that make our communities in Hertfordshire that extra bit special. And right now, we’re about keeping our community together and our morale up during the coronavirus crisis
Who we are
Piper Terrett – Editor and Founder
Piper Terrett lives in Stanstead Abbotts and, when she isn’t there, spends much of her time in Hertford, Hoddesdon and Ware. Well, actually now she spends most of her time at home running Happeninginherts.com! She is a financial journalist – former Small Business Editor at Yahoo! Finance, ex-Financial Times Business, MSN & Moneyweek – mum and dog owner.
She likes nothing better than talking to new people, finding out about what’s going on in the local area and trying out new things. Piper has also written for LoveMoney.com and Mirror Money Online and has featured on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Essex. She appeared regularly on Fix Radio & Bob FM and is the author of three books. She previously wrote a long-running blog called The Frugal Life for MSN during the credit crunch and she also writes, presents and produces our podcast The Lockdown Lowdown.
If you have an interesting local story or want to tell us about a new business, venture or group, do please get in touch at Happeninginherts@gmail.com

A parish councillor for Much Hadham, she holds a Bachelor’s in English and Political Science and a Master’s in International Business. Her business LeadershipLaire fosters a high level coaching community which facilitates sky high potential by maximizing the vehicles of identity, leadership and entrepreneurship.
Ali Lawrence – Contributor & Epping Partner
Ali Lawrence has enormous experience in digital publishing and project management, having worked for AOL, Huff Post, Yahoo!, National Geographic and many other big name digital brands. She now runs her own business 3OrangeWhips from her Epping home, providing content, social, marketing and project management services to entrepreneurial businesses.
Ali is a self-confessed lifetime cinephile and is involved with Epping at the Movies, a not-for-profit community cinema run solely by its volunteers. When she’s not watching, talking or writing about film, she also enjoys writing about her other passions; food, travel, stand-up comedy and mental wellness.
She helps run the Happeninginherts.com website and our Facebook page.
Penny Bird & Camera
Penny Bird is an amazingly talented photographer based in Harpenden and took many of the fantastic photos of our beautiful Herts towns featured on our homepage and often contributes photos to our Facebook page.
She works across a wide range of genres, using her communications background to make sure my work tells a compelling story. Alongside her business, she manages creative projects including #SHEINSPIRES – recognising inspirational women – and local community photographic art.
In 2018/19 She was invited to be a storyteller and photographer for Atlantic Discovery’s 3,000 mile row across the Atlantic.
