Looking for something a little bit different to get the kids for Christmas? Why not buy A Christmas Cracker, our audiobook raising money for St Andrew’s School in Stanstead Abbotts and Hertford Foodbank?
It can be tricky thinking of something new to get each year for young children – especially with the strange year we’ve had. If you fancy something a little bit different then what about an audiobook you can all listen to for a bit of entertainment, whether at home or in the car?
With the help of a number of fantastic local luminaries and authors, we’ve recorded an audiobook of children’s stories and poems – some Christmas-related, others just fun and entertaining. A Christmas Cracker is £5 and features the classic The Night Before Christmas by Clement C Moore, read with gusto by David Terrett (my talented Dad), plus Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll, narrated by our very own Graham Mack, a reading by local author Alice Hemming of her story Picnic Planet, Carol Jones owner of Leaf Cafe children’s bookshop in Hertford reading Rickety Rocket also by Alice Hemming (Carol became a hit during Lockdown for her amazing Facebook storytime readings), local author Charlotte Herod narrating her story with Jackie Davidson PC Charlie and the Runaway Horses, Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner, read by Piper Terrett, plus a fantastic re-working of Away in the Manger by the Rev Sarah Forrest, vicar of St Margarets, St Andrew’s in Stanstead Abbotts and St John the Baptist Church in Great Amwell.
All proceeds will go to St Andrew’s School in Stanstead Abbotts and Hertford Foodbank. And, rest assured, the audiobook has been tried, tested and quality-controlled by my five year-old son in the car on the way to school each morning…
